Selected for load-bearing brickwork carried to five storeys with no visible lintel on any elevation. Openings are arched within the depth of the wall, a technique the submission documents in full. The selection panel noted the collaboration with local masons as integral rather than incidental.

Being selected in Vienna for something our masons in Tehran have always known how to do was a strange kind of compliment. We took two of them to the exhibition. The building is slower to construct and cheaper to maintain, and the award made that argument easier with clients.
