Kavan Studio Identity

For fourteen years the studio signed its drawings in whatever typeface the software offered. The name means the arc a thing travels through, and that seemed worth drawing rather than setting. We built the wordmark on a single compass sweep struck at one radius, with the letters sitting on it the way brick sits on a shallow arch. Nothing else was invented.

The arc then became a rule. It sets the corner radius on the drawing sheet, the curve of the title block, and the sweep cut into the studio door handle. Everything is printed letterpress on uncoated stock so the mark holds a shallow bite you can feel. Contractors recognise our drawings across a site table before they read the name, which was the whole point.
