By 2019 the office was fourteen people and no two of them drew a wall the same way. On site this costs money: a contractor who has to interpret a drawing will interpret it cheaply. We wrote down the standard instead of assuming it. Six line weights, eleven hatches, one title block, and a rule that every junction is drawn at 1:5 before it is priced.

It exists as a printed booklet and a template file, and every new member of the office is given both on their first day. Line weights are set so a sheet survives being photocopied twice and read in daylight on a site table. The hatches distinguish materials our masons actually use. It has been revised three times in six years, always downward, toward fewer rules.
